Ada Initiative Survey
Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2011 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. I just took the five-minute survey on women in open tech & culture (a really inclusive definition). The Ada Initiative is surveying people of any gender in "a wide range of activities and communities based around free/open licenses, and other forms of open, decentralised, and grassroots participation in technology and related fields." If you're reading this and you're not related to me, you should probably go take it. It really does take less than five minutes, and this data is crucial so we can gauge how well we're doing now and how far we'll go in the next few years.
