Hurry Up & Wait

Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2003 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. If this post is particularly offensive or breaches someone's privacy, please contact me.

Sometime today, I believe, Salon will call or email and tell me whether I have the job. I haven't felt so anticipatory in a year. My fingernails are too short to chew, and work is too boring to distract me effectively. My mind keeps wandering to the possibilities of living and working in San Francisco, and then I scold myself for jumping the gun. After all, the job listing is still up.

Things that distract me:

  • Salon's front page currently contains the word "uxorious", which I did not know.
  • My sister's rumor was right: Aaron Sorkin is leaving NBC's The West Wing! Man, what next, Alex Trebek leaving Jeopardy!?

Not distracting enough.
