Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2002 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. I fought with a hidebound and reactionary haircutter yesterday to get the (quite short) haircut I wanted. I fear that she took her revenge on me by making one side longer than the other and that I'll need a costly adjustment.

Yesterday, while driving on a highway, I pulled over to help a stranded motorist. (It turned out that the car was empty.) As I sat on the shoulder, waiting for a traffic lull to pull back onto the road, I discovered that when a semi doing 70 passes a Corolla doing 0, the Corolla shakes for a few seconds. Scary.
