Discovery Versus Context
This insightful, funny, downbeat Brandy Zadrozny interview obliquely reminds me of something I realized the other day: the modern Web is, relatively, amazing at offering discovery but awful at offering context. It's easier than it's ever been for a single blog post/microblog post (such as a tweet), song, video, photo, etc. to be discovered, publicized, and plucked out of the context of what the creator usually says, what they are aiming to do, who and how large their usual audience is, and what power they hold in the institutions of their lives. And so it's easier than it's ever been to be heard, and easier than it's ever been to be misunderstood.
