"It Is Our Choices, Harry, That Show..."
Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2009 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. If this post is particularly offensive or breaches someone's privacy, please contact me.
If I really wanted to be with-it and hip to the NYC speculative fiction scene, I'd attend all sorts of relevant events. Instead: Clojure talk, social tea, watching original Star Trek films II, III, IV, and IV, Central Park rock-lounging, dentist, co-writing productivity session in a coffeeshop, watching PBS broadcast Chess in concert, and, uh, real work if I play my cards right.

Thank you for giving me the heads up on Chess! It's playing KQED on Thursday.
I've seen a couple of American productions with the story entirely changed because, apparently, in 1989, we lost all ability to understand stories set in the Cold War.
I've wished I could have seen the London production of the orginal story.

Central Park rock-lounging is the best kind of rock-lounging! Except maybe Central Park rock-lounging with desserts. Mmm... white chocolate ganache.
I love Chess!! I hope this is on the BBC soon
