The Royal Tenancy
Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2005 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. I like to pretend that I am stately. Also regal. But the word "regal" has to do with a hereditary aristocracy if not monarchy and I wouldn't want that kind of governmental system in the US. Then again, I like the idea of having a powerless yet stately head of state, like the British monarch, who gets to embody patriotism, etc., so that the head of government (president, prime minister, whatever) doesn't have to wear that hat too. I'd prefer that to the current situation in the US: "You don't like the current president or party in power? That means about half the country is traitorous/unpatriotic/hates all that America stands for!"
And some people are monarchs of their own minds.
