Hi, reader. I wrote this in 2002 and it's now more than five years old. So it may be very out of date; the world, and I, have changed a lot since I wrote it! I'm keeping this up for historical archive purposes, but the me of today may 100% disagree with what I said then. I rarely edit posts after publishing them, but if I do, I usually leave a note in italics to mark the edit and the reason. Analogies I discovered yesterday:
- I have, for no good reason, a stuffy nose and occasional sneezing. Once in a while the nose-blowing gets kind of yucky, like scooping skeins of scum out of the fish pond in Frances's backyard.
- Yesterday evening we attempted to use an electric ice-cream maker to make frozen yogurt with strawberries from Frances's garden. Leonard got rather frustrated with the recalcitrant machine. The instructions told us that, as soon as one removes the machine from its storage place in a freezer, it begins to thaw, so one should make sure that he has all the ingredients ready, and then take out the machine and begin using it immediately, to ensure proper cooling of the product. I said, "They make it sound like a heart transplant." In our case, the patient died.
